You will take part in practicalactivities to develop personal and vocationalskills relevant to the sector. You will alsobenefit from visits, guest speakers anda residential to supplement the learningexperience. In addition, you will have theopportunity to take part in the Duke ofEdinburgh Award Scheme.Entry RequirementsYou need a range of GCSEs at Grade D and above.There may be the opportunity for you to take FunctionalSkills courses and GCSEs alongside this course.Course ExpensesKit, including a polo shirt, hooded top and gymmembership – approximately £80. You will be expectedto purchase blue trousers or smart tracksuit trousers.Recommended course textbook – £20 (price correct attime of print). Trips and residentials – approximately £100.Trips/ResidentialsYou will take part in trips to relevant sites such as fireand police stations. Other destinations include ChepstowArmy base, Cobbs Cross, Ham Hill, Avonmouth Docks,Yeovilton, Weymouth, Exeter and Aldershot. As well asmeeting personnel from the Army, Royal Navy, RoyalMarines, Royal Air Force, Coldstream Guards, PrisonService and Police Service, these visits give you theopportunity to develop skills as varied as map reading,raft building and rope work.Career Prospects/ProgressionIf you successfully complete this qualification, you canapply for a wide range of public sector occupations,including posts in the Armed Forces, EmergencyServices, Coastguard and Prison Service. For someprofessions, for example Paramedic, you may need tocomplete further courses and qualifications. Alternatively,you may wish to progress on to the Level 3 UniformedPublic Services course.BTEC Diploma/ExtendedDiploma (Level 3)Uniformed Public ServicesDuring this course, you will learn a range ofknowledge and skills relevant for a career inthe Uniformed Public Services. Topics coveredinclude Citizenship & Diversity, Leadership &Teamwork, Government & Policy and FitnessTraining. You will have the opportunity toimprove your fitness level through additionalsport and activities, such as the Duke ofEdinburgh Award Scheme, and gainadditional qualifications, such as the NCFECertificate in Outdoor Development, theCommunity Sports Leadership Awardand the NCFE Award in Exercise, Health& Nutrition.
