At school, I found I got a kick out of simplifying and explaining things to otherstudents and, when I found out that I could do this as a career, I was in heaven. After reading for aconcurrent degree and certificate of education at London University, I taught for seven years inWorcester Royal Grammar School before moving to Sir John Colfox School in Bridport as Head ofBiology for a further 7 years. I then moved to Yeovil College. As an external examiner from 1975until 2008, I marked, wrote and finally became principle examiner for a number of different exam boardsincluding Oxford Locals, AEB, NEAB, AQA and OCR. My claim to fame being that I wrote the O Level exam papersat by one of my colleagues! Although I have had the opportunity to move into administration, my love for teachingand my subject has kept me in the classroom. I am a member of the Institute of Biology, have written articles fortheir publication and was one of their reviewers for new educational publications. I’ve also co-written revision booksfor Collins entitled ‘Do Brilliantly in Biology’.For further information call 01935 423921 or visit www.yeovil.ac.uk. Information correct at time of print. 89
