A Level (Level 3)English LiteratureA Level (Level 3)Fashion & TextilesDuring this course, you will read widely andanalyse novels, poetry and plays in order tocomment on the way they are written andwhat meanings they may have for readers.In the first year, you will look at drama andgenre by examining two plays, including oneby Shakespeare, and narrative in prose andpoetry. In the second year, you will developyour comparative and critical analysis skillsworking on multiple literary texts.Entry RequirementsStandard entry requirements apply, including GCSEEnglish at grade A*- B. You should enjoy reading awide range of literary texts.Course ExpensesYou will need your own texts. There may also be a theatretrip, which you will need to fund.Career Prospects/ProgressionMany students continue to Higher Education courses.As well as preparing you for an English Literature degree,this subject is valuable for courses including Humanities,Journalism or Education.The course develops your knowledge andunderstanding of Textiles & Fashion. Duringyear one you will learn about printmaking,dying fabrics & paper, constructed textiles,felt & silk paper making, knitting, stitchand fashion design. In year two, you willexplore an aspect of textiles or fashion thatinterests you.Entry RequirementsStandard entry requirements for A Levels apply, includinggrade C in GCSE Art or Textiles and a keen interest inthe subject.Course ExpensesFabric and textiles – approximately £70. Recommendedtrips fund – £40. You need to provide your own fabriccutting scissors.Trips/ResidentialsPrevious destinations include the National Clothes Showat the Birmingham NEC.Career Prospects/ProgressionThis course is good preparation for an Art Foundationcourse (see page 28), which will help you build aportfolio for applying to university.
