Enrichment ActivitiesHave you taken part in clubs andactivities outside of school hours?Do you want to carry on when you areat college?At Yeovil College, we encouragestudents to take part in a wide rangeof enrichment activities, such as sport,societies and volunteering.Taking part in enrichment activities alongsideyour course is fun, helps you make friendsand improves your confidence, healthand wellbeing. You will also develop awhole range of personal skills, such asteamworking, organisation and leadership,which are attractive to both futureemployers and universities. Your enrichmentexperience will make you stand out fromthe crowd when you apply for work orHigher Education.What enrichment activities can I do?Our most popular enrichment activities include:Sports Clubs and FitnessThe College offers a wide range of competitive andrecreational sporting opportunities, including:• Athletics• Badminton• Basketball• Cricket• Cross Country• Fitness Circuits• Football• Handball• Hockey• Netball• Rounders• Rugby• Self Defence/Ju-Jitsu• Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) Training• Strength and Conditioning Training• Table Tennis• Tennis• VolleyballThe College also offers a Sports LeadershipCommunity Volunteering programme and British Colleges’Sports competitions.If you are interested in our Sports Academies, pleasevisit the Gifted & Talented section of this prospectus.Duke of Edinburgh Award SchemeThe Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is for young peoplebetween 14-25 years old and gives you opportunitiesfor personal achievement, community involvement,adventure and fun whilst developing a range of personaland social skills. It is actively sought by industry, colleges,universities and the Armed Forces. Some of the benefitsinclude developing self-confidence and self-reliance,gaining a sense of achievement and responsibility,discovering new interests and talents and developingleadership skills and abilities. Yeovil College offers allthree levels of award: Bronze, Silver and Gold.Charity FundraisingMany of our students decide to collect money andsupplies for national and local charities while atYeovil College. In recent years, students in differentdepartments have supported charities including theSt Margaret’s Hospice, the Yeovil College BursaryFoundation, Help for Heroes, Yeovil Women’s Hospital’sFlying Colours appeal, Children in Need, Comic Relief’sRed Nose Day and Operation Christmas Child. Many ofthese collections were supported by staff and studentsfrom across the College.Volunteering and Community WorkYou may also like to volunteer in the community or getinvolved in local campaigns. For example, Music studentshave been heavily involved in the Pretty Vacant campaign,Buskfest and many more local events.
