Getting you into UniversityIn 2012, almost 200 Yeovil College A Level and Vocational students applied to universities,including top Russell Group members Oxford, Bristol, Cardiff, Nottingham, Southampton andWarwick, as well as Portsmouth, Plymouth, Bournemouth, Exeter, Bath, Reading and theUniversity of the West of England.Jasmine Burtonreceived an A in Physicsand A* grades forMathematics, FurtherMaths and her ExtendedProject Qualification(EPQ). The formerWestfield Academystudent said “I’m going tothe University of Exeter tostudy Mathematics. I’vealways liked Maths, butmy interest has really developed at Yeovil College. A LevelMaths is very different from GCSE, the topics covered aremuch more interesting.”Emily Pickupachieved two A* gradesin Photography andMathematics, as wellas an A in Further Maths.Emily is a former pupilof Preston Academy.Former StanchesterAcademy pupilJohn Every gained anA* grade in Mathematicsand an A grade in FurtherMaths, as well as Bgrades in Physics andComputing. Being at collegeis much better than being at secondary school becauseyou’re given much more freedom, there are fewerdistractions in class and there are better quality lecturers.”Rebecca Morris achievedthree A grades at A Level,in Biology, Psychologyand Law. Rebecca wentto Stanchester Academybefore coming to YeovilCollege. She said“I’ve really enjoyed myexperience here and I amlooking forward to the nextstep of going to universityin Bournemouth.”Former Preston Academypupil Greg Wheelerachieved three A gradesin A Level Geography,Mathematics and BusinessStudies, along with an Ain AS Physics. He said“I’ve secured a place atLoughborough Universityto study QuantitySurveying. My training isbeing sponsored by Morgan Sindall and I will work in theindustry with them and start permanent employment withthem at the end of my degree.
