A joint ownership (comunidad) may register a vessel if (1) themajority <strong>of</strong> the joint ownership is Chilean with domicile andresidency in Chile; (2) the administrators are Chilean naturalpersons; and (3) the majority <strong>of</strong> the rights <strong>of</strong> the jointownership (comunidad) belong to a Chilean natural orjuridical person. For these purposes, a juridical person withownership participation in a joint ownership (comunidad) thatowns a vessel has to comply with all the requirementsmentioned above.An owner (natural or juridical person) <strong>of</strong> a fishing vesselregistered in Chile prior to June 30, 1991 shall not besubject to the nationality requirement mentioned above.In cases <strong>of</strong> reciprocity granted to Chilean vessels by otherStates, fishing vessels specifically authorized by themaritime authorities pursuant to powers conferred by lawmay be exempted from the requirements mentioned aboveon equivalent terms provided to Chilean vessels by thatState.Access to small-scale fishing activities (pesca artesanal)shall be subject to registration in the Registro de PescaArtesanal. Registration for small-scale fishing (pescaartesanal) is only granted to Chilean natural persons andforeign natural persons with permanent residency, or aChilean juridical person constituted by the aforementionedpersons.III-CL-10
