In order to obtain the permit, the person incharge of the research must be engaged by a reliable foreignscientific institution and must be working in collaboration witha Chilean state-owned scientific institution or a Chileanuniversity.The aforementioned permit can be granted to (1) Chileanresearchers having the pertinent scientific background inarchaeology, anthropology, or palaeontology, duly certifiedas appropriate, and also having a research project and dueinstitutional sponsorship; and (2) foreign researchers,provided that they are engaged by a reliable scientificinstitution and that they work in collaboration with a Chileangovernmental scientific institution or a Chilean university.Museum Directors or Curators acknowledged by the Consejode Monumentos Nacionales, professional archaeologists,anthropologists, or palaeontologists, as appropriate, and themembers of the Sociedad Chilena de Arqueología shall beauthorized to perform salvage-related works. Salvageinvolves the urgent recovery of data or archaeological,anthropological, or palaeontological artifacts or speciesthreatened by imminent loss.III-CL-16
