Chen Xi ( ), activist and organizer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Guizhou <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> Forum, wastaken from his home <strong>in</strong> Guiyang City, Guizhou Prov<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>on</strong> April 22 by local policeand deta<strong>in</strong>ed at <strong>the</strong> "Postal Service Resort" <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> outskirts <strong>of</strong> town. Chen was held<strong>the</strong>re for five days while <strong>of</strong>ficials questi<strong>on</strong>ed him about activities planned by Guizhou<strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> Forum to commemorate “sensitive” anniversaries such as <strong>the</strong> 10 thAnniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> crackdown <strong>on</strong> Falun G<strong>on</strong>g <strong>on</strong> April 25 and <strong>the</strong> May FourthMovement. Chen was briefly deta<strong>in</strong>ed aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>on</strong> December 4 by Nati<strong>on</strong>al SecurityOfficers under <strong>the</strong> Guiyang Public Security Bureau. The <strong>of</strong>ficers hoped to prevent <strong>the</strong>Guizhou <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> Forum from carry<strong>in</strong>g out planned activities to mark <strong>the</strong>anniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Universal Declarati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> <strong>on</strong> December 10.西 陈 3. Chen Yunfei ( ), a democracy activist from Chengdu, Sichuan, wasbl<strong>in</strong>dfolded and led away from his home a group <strong>of</strong> more than 10 policemen andNati<strong>on</strong>al Security <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>on</strong> May 28. The <strong>of</strong>ficers searched his home, though <strong>the</strong>ydid not c<strong>on</strong>fiscate any property. Chen was taken to an unidentified locati<strong>on</strong>, where hewas held until midnight <strong>on</strong> June 8. For five <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eleven days he was deta<strong>in</strong>ed, Chenwent <strong>on</strong> a hunger strike, which he ended <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> even<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> June 4. On June 8, <strong>the</strong><strong>of</strong>ficers, <strong>on</strong>ce aga<strong>in</strong> bl<strong>in</strong>dfold<strong>in</strong>g Chen so he could not discover where he had beenheld, returned him to his home. Later, Chen was taken from his home by police from<strong>the</strong> Q<strong>in</strong>gliu Town police stati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> X<strong>in</strong>du District, Chengdu <strong>on</strong> December 9 and held<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Q<strong>in</strong>gliu Town police stati<strong>on</strong> until December 15. Chen stated that he was neverprovided with legal documentati<strong>on</strong> authoriz<strong>in</strong>g his detenti<strong>on</strong>, and added that he was飞 云 陈denied medical attenti<strong>on</strong> and beaten while he was deta<strong>in</strong>ed.4. Feng Zhenghu ( ), Shanghai-based activist and legal advisor, was seized <strong>on</strong>February 15 while <strong>in</strong> Beij<strong>in</strong>g and forcibly returned to Shanghai. He was <strong>the</strong>n illegallydeta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> a room at <strong>the</strong> D<strong>on</strong>ghu Guesthouse for 41 days before be<strong>in</strong>g released <strong>on</strong><strong>the</strong> afterno<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> March 25. Feng would make <strong>in</strong>ternati<strong>on</strong>al headl<strong>in</strong>es later <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> yearfor camp<strong>in</strong>g out <strong>in</strong> protest at Tokyo’s Narita Airport after Ch<strong>in</strong>ese <strong>of</strong>ficials deniedhim entry <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> country <strong>on</strong> eight c<strong>on</strong>secutive occasi<strong>on</strong>s between June andNovember. He was f<strong>in</strong>ally able to return to his home just before Ch<strong>in</strong>ese New Year<strong>in</strong> 2010.虎 正 冯 5. Guo Ba<strong>of</strong>eng ( , aka “amoiist”), a blogger from Fujian Prov<strong>in</strong>ce, was takenaway from his home by police from <strong>the</strong> Mawei District Public Security Bureau (PSB)<strong>in</strong> Fuzhou City <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> early morn<strong>in</strong>g hours <strong>of</strong> July 16. Guo was deta<strong>in</strong>ed for post<strong>in</strong>g<strong>on</strong>l<strong>in</strong>e messages <strong>in</strong> support <strong>of</strong> You J<strong>in</strong>gyou (see above). He was released <strong>on</strong> July 31.峰 宝 郭 6. Hu Jun ( ), a rights activist from X<strong>in</strong>jiang, was kidnapped <strong>in</strong> Beij<strong>in</strong>g <strong>on</strong> August25 by <strong>in</strong>terceptors from Changji Pris<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> X<strong>in</strong>jiang Uyghur Aut<strong>on</strong>omous Regi<strong>on</strong>. It isbelieved that Hu has been forcibly sent back to X<strong>in</strong>jiang, where he is at risk <strong>of</strong>军 胡 61
