Originally built to house technical tradesshops and related instructional areas, the “Tech Center” hasevolved to house more computer labs, as trades shopsmoved into the Manufacturing Training Center. This building has a very “enclosed” feeling, with dark brickcorridor walls, little interface between the interior spaces andcorridors, and no vertical relief. Former industrial shopshave been remodeled for instructional and office spaces, without proper air distribution systems. Several spaces arenot sized or proportioned appropriately for the learning andinstruction that takes place in those spaces. Due to lowfloor-to-roof structure height, inflexibility of the interiorspaces (narrow corridors flanked by bearing walls), andinefficiency of building systems, it is recommended that thisbuilding be razed, to be replaced by a new classroombuilding.4-14
