Their goal is to facilitate the process <strong>of</strong> attracting and retaining investment to the <strong>City</strong>. The mainsectors <strong>of</strong> focus for the LEDC are manufacturing, life sciences, information technology and other forms <strong>of</strong>technology.Business retention activities include providing site selection data, information on government programs,providing advice and assistance, acting as a liaison with the municipal government.The LEDC also partners with a host <strong>of</strong> local service providers to assist companies with financial, regulatory,taxation and legal issues.Development Charge ExemptionsMarkhamInnovation Synergy Centre in Markham (ISCM) is a business advisory “hub” designed to accelerate thedevelopment <strong>of</strong> thriving enterprises with 10 to 50 employees. It is not an incubator but will partner withqualified companies to support their development into larger, more prosperous organizations.Since 1997, the Town has been marketing itself through a comprehensive economic development strategyas Canada’s High-Tech Capital. Markham has attracted the largest per-capita concentration <strong>of</strong> high-techcompanies in Canada.Middlesex CentreBusiness Newsletter, Visitation Program, Small Business Help CentreMiltonMilton was the fastest growing community in Ontario in the 2008 Census. New employment areas areexpanding rapidly. The <strong>City</strong> operates a proactive visitation and company calling program.
