<strong>Municipal</strong> <strong>Study</strong> <strong>2011</strong>Downtown/Area Specific ProgramsBramptonType <strong>of</strong> ProgramDowntownDevelopmentCorporationDowntown/Area Specific ProgramsThe Brampton Downtown Development Corporation (BDDC): a financiallysustainable funded, semi-autonomous organization that has evolved fromthe existing Brampton Downtown Business Association (BDBA), and willhave expanded powers pursuant to existing municipal legislation, namely:Community Development Corporation, BIA, <strong>Municipal</strong> BusinessCorporations legislation.The Brampton Downtown Development Corporation is the firstDevelopment Corporation <strong>of</strong> this kind in the Province <strong>of</strong> Ontario. After a 5-year process, the regulation was finally passed through ProvincialCabinet in April 2005. It is a new development tool that will have thecapacity to undertake considerably more than the existing BIA is able tocurrently undertake as a Part III Corporation. This includes undertaking aprogram <strong>of</strong> grant making, and other promotion, improvement,development and redevelopment programs.Downtown and Queen Street Corridor CIP and Incentive ProgramDC Discounts on targeted non-retail ICICash in Lieu <strong>of</strong> Parking Waiver in the Downtown<strong>Brantford</strong>GrantThe <strong>City</strong> provides a Performance Grant Program to assist businessesand property owners within the Downtown Community ImprovementProject Area in the implementation <strong>of</strong> sound business plans that willgenerate increased economic activity in the Downtown. The grant is toassist with the financing <strong>of</strong> costs associated with the rehabilitation <strong>of</strong>lands and buildings relating to the implementation <strong>of</strong> such business plans.Building PermitFeesThe <strong>City</strong> has reduced building permit fees to encourage constructionactivity in the Downtown Community Improvement Project Area.DC ExemptionsNo development charges in Downtown BIA area.Economic Development Programs364
