OVERVIEW AND SETUPAs an added feature to conserve battery life, the instrumentautomatically powers down when it is not in use. You candefine the amount of time it takes to initiate a power-downwithin the instrument configuration options (see Section Four).Taking a measurement or pressing a key turns the instrumentback on during a power-down. However, if the instrument isturned off with the battery switch you must turn it back on withthe battery switch.Battery SwitchAC Adapter Input1.7 Charging the Battery PackNOTE: The battery pack must be installed before plugging in the ACAdapter.Only use the AC Adapter supplied. The battery pack mustremain in the instrument at all times to operate.Before initial “remote” use of the instrument, charge the batterypack for approximately four hours. However, if immediate useis required, the instrument can be operated “tethered” to the ACadapter during battery charging.To attach the AC adapter:1. Verify that the voltage indicated on the adapter complieswith the AC line voltage in your area. If not, contactX-<strong>Rite</strong> or an authorized representative.2. Insert the small plug from the adapter into the power-inputconnector on the instrument. (If you are using serial cableSE108-92, you may insert the small plug into the powerconnector at the end of the cable.).3. Plug the detachable line cord into the adapter.4. Plug the line cord into an AC wall receptacle.1-5
