3120 SHERIFF’S OFFICEDEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Sheriff of <strong>Bedford</strong> <strong>County</strong> is a constitutional officer elected by the citizens of<strong>Bedford</strong> <strong>County</strong> and the City of <strong>Bedford</strong> for a four-year term. The Sheriff is the chieflaw enforcement officer, as defined by the Code of <strong>Virginia</strong>, for the county and isresponsible for law enforcement, court security, and civil process duties. TheDepartment includes the divisions of: Administration; Civil/Community Service; andField.The Administration Division includes department administration, criminal investigations,vice and volunteer programs. The Civil/Community Service Division manages civilprocessing, courtroom security, school resource officers, neighborhood watch, andcitizen’s police academy.
