3120 SHERIFF’S OFFICEDEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Sheriff of Bedford County is a constitutional officer elected by the citizens ofBedford County and the City of Bedford for a four-year term. The Sheriff is the chieflaw enforcement officer, as defined by the Code of Virginia, for the county and isresponsible for law enforcement, court security, and civil process duties. TheDepartment includes the divisions of: Administration; Civil/Community Service; andField.The Administration Division includes department administration, criminal investigations,vice and volunteer programs. The Civil/Community Service Division manages civilprocessing, courtroom security, school resource officers, neighborhood watch, andcitizen’s police academy.
