5311, 5321 SOCIAL SERVICESDEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Bedford County Department of Social Services is a locally administered stateagency. Policy for the Department is set by the Welfare Board which is appointed byBedford County Board of Supervisors. Employees of the Department are Stateemployees. The Social Services Department is divided into three units: Administration -- oversees the entire Department of Social Services (as well asthe Domestic Violence Shelter and the Bedford County Group Homes); alsocovers Security and Finance. Public Assistance--calculates and processes Benefit payments. Programsprovided include: Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, SupplementalNutrition Assistance, Medicaid and Auxiliary Grant Assistance, EnergyAssistance, and Other Emergency Assistance.
