THE CARBON WAR

We are backed by billions 275
people with enormous spiders on their clothing. Alcohol is being taken. Boys
are being boisterous. Some girls too.
But I am catching up on my world on the web, as ever.
“The world is ready for change”, says Christiana Figueres in an op-ed. “We
should remember that international negotiations don’t cause change, they mark
it.… We will look back at this moment as a moment of remarkable transformation,
as the indisputable turning point of this century. Let us open our eyes
now and see it as it happens.”
How I have come to love this woman. She should get a Nobel Prize, win
or lose in Paris.
Buddhists leaders are joining the Pope now, calling for strong Paris climate
deal. It is the first time that a critical mass of leaders of the world’s billion Buddhists
have spoken out on a global issue. They are arguing for a 1.5°C limit to
global warming.
A billion Catholics here, a billion Buddhists there, plus manifest interest
from Muslim, Protestant, and Jewish leaders, and pretty soon you have a
pan-religions movement.
Perhaps the Middle East won’t boil after all.
