is expected to increase the existing correlation between education levels,<br />
employment <strong>an</strong>d pay 58 . As people lack the skills allowing them to remain in<br />
employment for longer this will have consequences for funding their later life.<br />
Failure to address these barriers may have a greater effect on inequalities as<br />
skills have a greater impact on employment.<br />
Policy Implication<br />
Longer careers, a more dynamic labour market <strong>an</strong>d the impact <strong>of</strong><br />
automation on jobs me<strong>an</strong> that lifetime learning <strong>an</strong>d training will be<br />
essential to the future <strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong> ageing workforce. If successful, this c<strong>an</strong> help<br />
the UK’s workforce, increase productivity <strong>an</strong>d ensure people have higher<br />
levels <strong>of</strong> fin<strong>an</strong>cial, social <strong>an</strong>d mental capital going into later life. Failure will<br />
likely result in skills gaps at the same time as older people are leaving the<br />
