Presidential Palace
Cathedral of Lima
San Francisco Church
Nazca Lines
• NAZCA LINES
Located within the city of
Ica is the Nazca Plains.
There are four areas in total
which are Palpa, Ingenio,
Nazca and Socos, south of Lima.
The site has been declared by
UNESCO as a Mankind Heritage Site
due to desert floors having intricate lines
and figures to which there is no proper
explanation and it still waits to be
unraveled.
The mystery surrounding this is
huge as the Nazca culture is
believed to be incapable of manned
flight. The question remains as to
how they crafted the drawings, what
technology they used and what
purpose the lines served.
• LIMA'S HISTORIC CENTRE
Declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO, the
centre consists of the main square, the Presidential Palace
and the San Francisco Church with its monastery, Cathedral
of Lima and various museums.
The Presidential Palace is open to the public but access is
restricted. So, keep your identification on you at all times
before entering and marvelling at the decorated lounges,
impressive entrance hall and other treasures. As for the
San Francisco Church, apart from its lattice dome and
gilded side altars, the adjoining monastery has a large
collection of ancient religious texts. A must-do at this place
includes viewing the catacombs, Lima's original cemeteries
that were built under the churches. Meanwhile, the cathedral
has checkerboard flooring, vaulted ceilings, gold-plated
main altar as well as carved wooden choir stalls that will
make those following you on Instagram green with envy!
