Hotels
As Old As Time
Visit, have lunch or stay at one of these decades
if not centuries old hotels steeped in history and
culture even if it is for a mere 60 minutes. It will
be time well spent as you have taken part in
knowing their past, firsthand.
NISHIYAMA ONSEN KEIUNKAN
HAYAKAWA, YAMANASHI
PREFECTURE, JAPAN
Walk the corridors once frequented by samurai warriors,
breathe in the lush greeneries surrounding the hotel or
take a hot bath in the natural hot springs. What's more
impressive is that the hotel, which has been in business
since 705 AD, has the same family running it for its entire
existence. The hotel, built around a natural hot spring,
is also the world's oldest inn according to the Guinness
Book of World Records.
The history of the Keiunkan inn dates back to the second
year of the Keiun era when hotel founder, Fujiwara Mahito
opened the inn in 705 AD and because it was founded
in the Keiun era, it was thus named Keiunkan. Also, as
the hotel is located in the Yamanashi Prefecture which
also has the world heritage-listed Mount Fuji, guests
are able to view the mountain on the way to the hotel.
