Celebrating
25 years
with you!
Malaysia Airports turns 25 years old this year and it is celebrating
its silver jubilee with a bang!
To kick things off, the airport operator unveiled a special theme
song titled 'Jutaan Jiwa' performed and composed by Malaysian
indie alternative rock band, HUJAN.
Penned by band member Noh Salleh and composed by Noh
and AG Coco, the song is meant as an embodiment of Malaysia
Airports' aspiration and purpose in creating joyful experiences
for all its airport users.
The song was symbolically launched at the 25th Anniversary
Kick-Off celebration held at KL International Airport (KLIA) roof
terrace on February 14.
In his speech, Malaysia Airports Managing Director, Datuk
Badlisham Ghazali said, "Throughout these 25 years, Malaysia
Airports has been fortunate to enjoy many successes. KLIA is
among the top 25 busiest airports in the world, climbing up
by leaps and bounds from the days of Subang Airport when
we only had 16 million passengers a year (mppa). Last year,
KLIA surpassed the 50 mppa mark and grew by 7.6 per cent
to nearly 53 mppa. In fact, in January 2017, KLIA registered
double digit growth of 15 per cent when compared to the
same period last year."
Badlisham said klia2, the airport operator's second and newlyopened
terminal, is on the road to position itself as a premier
hub within ASEAN. He added that passenger transfer between
both terminals tripled from 0.5 million to 1.5 million. Combined,
both terminals cater to more than 60 airlines serving more
than 120 direct destinations and more than 1,000 indirectly.
Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport
Apart from managing 39 Malaysian airports including KLIA,
Malaysia Airports acquired the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen
International Airport in Turkey in 2015, making it the first Asian
airport operator to fully own an overseas airport.
Malaysia Airports also took pride in the robust growth at other
international and domestic airports around Malaysia. In the
last 25 years growth at most of these airports either doubled
or tripled – but more importantly, it still continues to grow.
