CONFESSIONS OF
A TRAVELHOLIC
CHEF WAN
It's true when one states to not judge a
book by its cover because he may be
standing slightly over 5 feet tall, but Datuk
Redzuawan Ismail or as he is more fondly
known as Chef Wan, is a formidable figure
in both the local and international culinary
industry. Malaysia's very own Gordon
Ramsay, the celebrity chef is also a wellknown
food ambassador with a penchant
for travelling and cooking from wherever
he may be. In this issue of Convergence,
Chef Wan lets us in on why travelling is
important and how it has moulded him
into the person he is today
HOW FREQUENTLY DO YOU TRAVEL
ABROAD AND WHAT ARE SOME OF
THE NOTABLE DESTINATIONS?
I travel almost every month sometimes for a week up
to six weeks abroad when I am filming my world travel
series 'Kembara Sedunia Bersama Chef Wan'
broadcasted on Astro. Our last trip was to South
America visiting countries such as Brazil, Argentina and
Chile. Some of my favourite destinations are around
the Greek islands, Spain, Italy and Morocco.
BESIDES MALAYSIA, WHERE ELSE
DO YOU CONSIDER HOME?
Australia and UK have always been my second home
over the last 30 years of my travelling. These wonderful
countries are a melting pot of people across all cultures
living in peace, harmony and are able to tolerate and
respect each culture in a positive way. This is where the
world should take its inspiration and gain experience.
I have a lot of respect for these countries and its citizens.
