Sunflower Seeds
Locally, we call it 'kuaci'. Gone are the days when you would
see rows and rows of theatre seats and floor littered with kuaci
shells. Today, sunflower seeds are commonly added as an
ingredient to salads, cakes or pies.
Twisties
Life's pretty straight without Twisties. The tagline may not be
known to many but throw us a bag of Twisties in its iconic
yellow packaging, especially here in Malaysia and we'll be
busy munching without even giving you a second glance. The
Australian cheesy snack is almost 70 years old and comes in
various flavours which include the infamous cheese, chicken
as well as BBQ curry, pizza and even slightly unique flavours
such as salmon teriyaki and toffee. Twisties is made primarily
from milled corn, rice, wheat and water.
Moon Pie
They've been around for 100 years! The perfect combination
of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallow filling kicked
off in 1917 when a coal miner asked a travelling salesman for
a snack "as big as the moon". Chattanooga Bakery in the
United States responded with a tasty treat aptly named Moon
Pie and the rest is history. The pies became a household name
not just in America but countries all over the world. Today,
the company produces over a million Moon Pies each day!
Snickers
Owned by global food company, Mars Incorporated, Snickers
was named after the company founder's pet horse! Layers of
roasted peanuts, caramel and nougat covered in milk chocolate
contribute to the tasty candy bar but peanuts are most
definitely one of the star ingredients in a Snickers bar.
Super Ring
This particular corn-based cheese
snack will have your hands shining
in bright orange even before
you're done finishing the snack.
A Malaysian product by Oriental
Food Industries Sdn Bhd, it brings
back memories to many because
if you’re a child at heart, the
correct way to eat these rings are
by slipping it like rings on each
finger and later stuffing it into
your mouth one by one. Also,
don't be alarmed by its strong
smell because you'll find a sweet
yet salty cracker dissolving in your
mouth by the end of it.
Lay's
Betcha can't eat just one. The potato crisps live
up to their tagline because it is just that addictive.
Here's an interesting fact: Herman Lay, the man
who started it all, initially sold the packaged snacks
across the United States from the trunk of his car!
The crisps may have started out with BBQ, Sour
Cream and Onion and the regular salted flavours
but today, the lineup includes Cheesy Garlic
Bread, Wasabi Ginger and Biscuits & Gravy.
