Evaluati<strong>on</strong> Of Auditor Competence<br />
The evaluati<strong>on</strong> of auditor competence should be planned, implemented, and documented in accordance with<br />
the audit program, including its procedures to provide an outcome that is objective, c<strong>on</strong>sistent, fair, and reliable.<br />
The evaluati<strong>on</strong> process should include four main steps, as follows:<br />
a. Determine the competence of audit pers<strong>on</strong>nel to fulfill the needs of the audit program<br />
b. Establish the evaluati<strong>on</strong> criteria<br />
c. Select the appropriate evaluati<strong>on</strong> method<br />
d. C<strong>on</strong>duct the evaluati<strong>on</strong><br />
The outcome of the evaluati<strong>on</strong> process should provide a basis for the following:<br />
• Selecti<strong>on</strong> of audit team members<br />
• Determining the need for improved competence (e.g., additi<strong>on</strong>al training)<br />
• Ongoing performance evaluati<strong>on</strong> of auditors<br />
Auditors should develop, maintain, and improve their competence through:<br />
• C<strong>on</strong>tinual professi<strong>on</strong>al development and<br />
• Regular participati<strong>on</strong> in audits.<br />
