104 <strong>The</strong> <strong>Mystery</strong> on the Great Wall of China
<strong>The</strong> sun was already thinking about going
down. But it was still quite bright out, with
shadows deepening in the mountain valleys. As
soon as the kids spied the Great Wall they cheered!
“It really, really is great!” said Grant. He
pointed up the mountain. “It looks like it goes
on forever!”
<strong>The</strong>y could see that some of the wall had
been restored while other parts were crumbled
ruins. <strong>The</strong>y could also see that the treasure map
really was about the Great Wall. <strong>The</strong> only
problem was just that: the wall was GREAT, and
their time was short.
Papa headed for a coffee vendor, which gave
the kids a chance to look closely at the map.
Christina thought about what Mimi had taught her
about solving mysteries. Look past the red herrings,
she had said. Think logically. Focus on the possible.

“What do you think?” asked Grant. He
knew his sister was good at solving puzzles.
“Let’s just be quiet a minute and look,”

about the map.
