<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> sun was already thinking about going<br />

down. But it was still quite bright out, with<br />

shadows deepening in <strong>the</strong> mountain valleys. As<br />

so<strong>on</strong> as <strong>the</strong> kids spied <strong>the</strong> <strong>Great</strong> <strong>Wall</strong> <strong>the</strong>y cheered!<br />

“It really, really is great!” said Grant. He<br />

pointed up <strong>the</strong> mountain. “It looks like it goes<br />

<strong>on</strong> forever!”<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>y could see that some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> wall had<br />

been restored while o<strong>the</strong>r parts were crumbled<br />

ruins. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>y could also see that <strong>the</strong> treasure map<br />

really was about <strong>the</strong> <strong>Great</strong> <strong>Wall</strong>. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>ly<br />

problem was just that: <strong>the</strong> wall was GREAT, and<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir time was short.<br />

Papa headed for a c<strong>of</strong>fee vendor, which gave<br />

<strong>the</strong> kids a chance to look closely at <strong>the</strong> map.<br />

Christina thought about what Mimi had taught her<br />

about solving mysteries. Look past <strong>the</strong> red herrings,<br />

she had said. Think logically. Focus <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> possible.<br />

Put your mind in <strong>the</strong> mind <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> criminal.<br />

“What do you think?” asked Grant. He<br />

knew his sister was good at solving puzzles.<br />

“Let’s just be quiet a minute and look,”<br />

Christina suggested. “And see what we can see.”<br />

Slowly, like a hidden picture puzzle, <strong>the</strong><br />

kids began to draw some interesting c<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong>s<br />

about <strong>the</strong> map.
