“Let’s hope so,” he said quietly.<br />

Aboard <strong>the</strong> boat, <strong>the</strong> children were<br />

delighted at <strong>the</strong> l<strong>on</strong>g buffet <strong>of</strong> food. “It looks like<br />

a real banquet!” said Papa, with delight.<br />

Little cards beside each dish told what it<br />

was: pickled vegetables; 10,000-year-old eggs;<br />

seas<strong>on</strong>ed jellyfish.<br />

“Well, I was hungry,” said Grant, disgusted<br />

at <strong>the</strong> thought <strong>of</strong> eating eggs that had been<br />

around that l<strong>on</strong>g! “I wouldn’t eat that for all <strong>the</strong><br />

tea in <strong>China</strong>…”<br />

“It’s good manners to try a little <strong>of</strong><br />

everything,” hinted Mrs. Fu, as <strong>the</strong> children<br />

took <strong>the</strong>ir plates.<br />

“Oh, OK,” said Grant, helping himself to<br />

some fried scorpi<strong>on</strong>!<br />

So<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>y were all settled at a table. As<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir host, Mr. Fu asked about <strong>the</strong>ir travels so far<br />

and if <strong>the</strong>y were enjoying <strong>China</strong>.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>n Papa asked <strong>the</strong> Fus, “Tell us about<br />

your business; it sounds very interesting.”
