began to run away out of their reach.
But then they all heard another booming
voice, “STOP! We know who you are! You are
under arrest!”
Everyone froze! <strong>The</strong> kids thought that
the man in the uniform meant them, perhaps.
After all, they had now defaced the Great Wall
of China. Even Papa thought he might be in
trouble. After all, he had yelled at a Chinese
citizen. But the uniformed man, who wore a
gun on his hip, walked directly up to the man in
the black jacket.
“You, jade thief,” the officer said. “You
are under arrest!” He yanked the plasticwrapped
package from the man’s hands and gave
it to Papa to hold while he handcuffed the man.
But the kids knew who was really in trouble.
“Graaaaant!” Papa said. “Christinaaaaa!”
