64 <strong>The</strong> <strong>Mystery</strong> on the Great Wall of China
away toward the city before he could manage to
follow them.
As soon as the bell dinged that they could
release their seat belts, the four kids jumped up,
grabbed their backpacks, and headed down the
aisle toward the door. Most of the adults moved
so slowly or had so much luggage to get out of
the overhead compartments, that the kids easily
were among the first few people off the plane.
Grant, who had been last in line, had given
Mimi and Papa a quick wave and pointed toward
the terminal. He figured they would know he
meant “meet you at baggage claim.” But once
the kids raced through the airport to the
baggage claim carousels, they found that all their
haste had been a waste. <strong>The</strong>y just stood there
and waited on Mimi, Papa, the luggage to
appear…and the man.
“Oh, no! I forgot!” Christina cried
suddenly. “Mimi and Papa just have an overnight
bag with them in the overhead bin…we don’t
need to be here at the baggage claim.”
Li looked all around the throng of people
gathering to claim their luggage. “Well, I guess
the bad guy didn’t have luggage either. I don’t
see him anywhere.”
