64 <strong>The</strong> <strong>Mystery</strong> on the Great Wall of China away toward the city before he could manage to follow them. As soon as the bell dinged that they could release their seat belts, the four kids jumped up, grabbed their backpacks, and headed down the aisle toward the door. Most of the adults moved so slowly or had so much luggage to get out of the overhead compartments, that the kids easily were among the first few people off the plane. Grant, who had been last in line, had given Mimi and Papa a quick wave and pointed toward the terminal. He figured they would know he meant “meet you at baggage claim.” But once the kids raced through the airport to the baggage claim carousels, they found that all their haste had been a waste. <strong>The</strong>y just stood there and waited on Mimi, Papa, the luggage to appear…and the man. “Oh, no! I forgot!” Christina cried suddenly. “Mimi and Papa just have an overnight bag with them in the overhead bin…we don’t need to be here at the baggage claim.” Li looked all around the throng of people gathering to claim their luggage. “Well, I guess the bad guy didn’t have luggage either. I don’t see him anywhere.”
Let the Fireworks Begin! 65 “Good!” said Grant, looking around, too. “<strong>The</strong>n let’s get out of here in case he shows up.” Pulling their wheeled backpacks, the kids hurried on through the airport. Suddenly, Christina, who was leading the way, stopped. Li, who was next, bumped into her. Cong bumped into them. Grant fell on top of Cong. “What is it?” Grant asked, pulling himself up. Christina pointed ahead. “We have to walk past the Air China counter to get to the exit.” “Uh, oh,” said Li. She nodded. In a small crowd of people near the center of the long counter, stood the angry man. He was looking all around, but could not see them through the crowd. “This is your chance,” Cong pleaded with Grant. “To turn the map in.” “No way,” said Grant. “I have an idea. Everyone follow me—hurry!” Quick as a firecracker, Grant popped behind the counter where the busy agents were working. <strong>The</strong> other kids followed closely behind, stooping down so as not to be seen from the front of the counter.
