Student Support<br />

At <strong>Shipley</strong> <strong>College</strong>, we understand that no two<br />

students are the same. We treat our students<br />

as individuals and aim to help you reach your full<br />

potential. Our highly qualified Student Services<br />

Team offer a network of support to ensure you<br />

gain the most from your studies. We want you to<br />

be successful throughout your college years and<br />

beyond.<br />

• Student Services are your first point of contact for<br />

impartial advice and guidance on study, personal<br />

matters, finding employment and university<br />

applications to name a few areas.<br />

• Personal Tutors and Learning Coaches will<br />

meet with you for regular tutorials to track your<br />

progress and provide any necessary guidance.<br />

• The <strong>College</strong> prioritises safeguarding. If you have<br />

a concern, raise it with any member of staff and<br />

we will deal appropriately and sensitively with the<br />

issue.<br />

Additional Learning Support<br />

This team offers extra assistance, help and advice if<br />

you have particular needs which affect your ability to<br />

study, make progress or access the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

The in-class support we provide includes:<br />

• Learning Support Assistants and Communication<br />

Support Workers, as well as one-to-one sessions,<br />

small group work, adapted materials and<br />

assistance with mobility.<br />

• Assistive technology such as adapted keyboards,<br />

specialised software and a range of laptops.<br />

Financial Support<br />

If you are aged 16-18, courses are free<br />

All students can apply for a 16-18 PhotoCard with<br />

Metro travel which cuts your costs of travel to<br />

<strong>College</strong>.<br />

Dependent on your personal or family financial<br />

circumstances, you may also qualify for:<br />

• A weekly bursary payment to help support you<br />

with course-related items such as equipment or<br />

uniform requirements.<br />

• Free college meals - eligible students are given<br />

a daily allowance to buy food from the <strong>College</strong><br />

canteens.<br />
