Sports Turf Operative<br />

Level 2 Apprenticeship<br />

Course length: 2 years | Code: 71<strong>20</strong><br />

Entry requirements<br />

• An apprenticeship vacancy in your chosen area.<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English<br />

& maths or Have recently gained GCSE grades 4<br />

(C) or above in English & maths.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

About the course<br />

You will be responsible for the maintenance,<br />

renovation and appearance of sports turf surfaces.<br />

Depending on your employer, you could be working<br />

across a range of sports such as athletics, bowls,<br />

cricket, football and horse racing, ranging from<br />

general park type sports surfaces to first class<br />

stadiums. You will learn how to identify and use<br />

the correct materials, tools & equipment for<br />

groundskeeping. You will also learn how to monitor<br />

& report findings, environmental and health &<br />

safety law and regulations, as well as developing an<br />

understanding of different types of surface and how<br />

to reduce environmental impacts.<br />

At the end of your apprenticeship, you will need<br />

to pass the End Point Assessment. This involves<br />

the completion of a portfolio of evidence, a series<br />

of practical assessment tests and a professional<br />

discussion.<br />

Your future<br />

After completing a Level 2 Apprenticeship, you could<br />

progress on to a Level 3 Apprenticeship or full-<strong>time</strong><br />

study at college. Alternatively, you can use the skills<br />

and experience you have gained to progress further<br />

in your career.<br />

Environmental Conservation<br />

Intermediate Apprenticeship<br />

(Level 2)<br />

Course length: 18 months | Code: 7121<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• An apprenticeship vacancy in your chosen area.<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English<br />

& maths or Have recently gained GCSE grades 4<br />

(C) or above in English & maths.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

About the course<br />

This course can help you gain work-based specialist<br />

skills and experience in Environmental Conservation.<br />

There are many units of study which will develop<br />

your practical and professional skills. Topics include<br />

monitoring and maintaining health & safety,<br />

maintaining environmental good practice, preparing<br />

& conducting field surveys, maintaining equipment &<br />

machines, habitat establishment & management and<br />

constructing & maintaining paths and boundaries.<br />

You need to be working full or part-<strong>time</strong> in the<br />

industry, in order to gain the practical experience<br />

required to complete the course.<br />

Assessment is through completion of a portfolio<br />

of work, including practical observations and<br />

written work.<br />

Your future<br />

On successful completion of this course, you can<br />

progress on to the Environmental Conservation<br />

Work-based Level 3 Diploma or the Horticulture<br />

BTEC Level 3 Diploma.<br />
