Playwork Intermediate<br />

Apprenticeship (Level 2)<br />

Course length: 1 year | Code: 5<strong>20</strong>2<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• You should be at least 16 years old.<br />

• A job as an apprentice in a playwork setting for a<br />

minimum of 30 hours per week. If you work fewer<br />

hours, the length of <strong>time</strong> on your apprenticeship<br />

will be longer.<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English<br />

& maths.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

• A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check<br />

at the start of the course.<br />

About the course<br />

This qualification is an introduction to the primary<br />

aspects of working with children & young people<br />

age 4 to 16, in a play environment. You will cover the<br />

knowledge and skills needed when working under<br />

supervision. You need to enjoy working with children<br />

and to have a responsible attitude and commitment<br />

to this type of work.<br />

Please note, unless you already have grade 9-4 (A-C)<br />

in maths and English, you will need to study up to<br />

Level 2 in these subjects and also ICT. Therefore, you<br />

will need to be able to successfully pass an initial<br />

assessment prior to starting the course.<br />

Your future<br />

After your apprenticeship, you can use the skills and<br />

experience you have gained to progress further in<br />

your career. You could also secure work and progress<br />

with the Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3).<br />

Playwork Advanced<br />

Apprenticeship (Level 3)<br />

Course length: 18 months | Code: 5<strong>20</strong>3<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• You must be 18 years or over.<br />

• A job as an apprentice in a playwork setting for a<br />

minimum of 30 hours per week. If you work fewer<br />

hours the length of <strong>time</strong> on your apprenticeship<br />

will be longer.<br />

• A minimum of 1 year’s relevant industry<br />

experience and/or a Level 2 qualification in<br />

Childcare.<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English<br />

& maths.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

• A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check<br />

at the start of the course.<br />

About the course<br />

This Advanced Apprenticeship gives you the in-depth<br />

experience in the role of the Level 3 Playworker,<br />

working with children & young people age 4 to 16.<br />

You will cover the knowledge and skills needed<br />

when working unsupervised. This course is suitable<br />

for experienced playworkers who have a wide<br />

knowledge and understanding of children & young<br />

people and an appreciation of playwork principles &<br />

practice. You need to enjoy working with children and<br />

have a responsible attitude and commitment to this<br />

type of work.<br />

Your future<br />

After your apprenticeship, you can study a course at<br />

college or university, such as a Higher Apprenticeship<br />

or use the skills you have developed and the<br />

experience you have gained at work to progress<br />

further in your job role/career, potentially in to<br />

management.<br />
