Intermediate Apprenticeship<br />

(Level 2)<br />

Course length: 1 year | Code: 5602<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• You should be at least 16 years old.<br />

• A job as an apprentice in a school as a Teaching<br />

Assistant for a minimum of 30 hours a week (this<br />

will include one day in <strong>College</strong> per week).<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English,<br />

maths & ICT.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

• A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check<br />

at the start of the course.<br />

About the course<br />

This course can help you develop a career working<br />

in a school as a Teaching Assistant with 6-19 year<br />

olds. You will learn how to support the development<br />

and learning of children and young people and gain<br />

the skills & knowledge needed for your career. This<br />

is also a good starting point if you want to go on to<br />

be a teacher. You need to enjoy working with children<br />

and to have a responsible attitude and commitment<br />

to this type of work. Please note, unless you already<br />

have grade 9-4 (A-C) in maths and English, you will<br />

need to study up to Level 2 in these subjects and<br />

also ICT.<br />

Your future<br />

After your apprenticeship, you could secure work and<br />

progress within your chosen career or choose to train<br />

further with the Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3).<br />

Apprenticeship (Level 3)<br />

Course length: 18 months | Code: 5603<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• You must be 18 years or over.<br />

• A job as an apprentice in a school as a Teaching<br />

Assistant for a minimum of 30 hours a week.<br />

• A minimum of 1 year’s relevant industry<br />

experience and/or a Level 2 qualification in<br />

Childcare.<br />

• You must pass an initial assessment in English,<br />

maths & ICT.<br />

• You will have an interview.<br />

• A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check<br />

at the start of the course.<br />

About the course<br />

Learn the skills required by a Teaching Assistant,<br />

making sure pupils get the most out of their lessons.<br />

You could help to plan, carry out and evaluate a wide<br />

range of learning activities, working both alongside<br />

the teacher to support classroom activities, and<br />

alone with individuals or groups of students. Some<br />

learning support staff specialise in areas such as<br />

music or special needs. This course will help improve<br />

your employment prospects and enable you to work<br />

in a variety of childcare settings.<br />

Your future<br />

After your apprenticeship, you can study a course at<br />

college or university, such as a Higher Apprenticeship<br />

or use the skills and experience you have gained to<br />

progress further in your job role/career.<br />
