“‘I am enjoying my Supported
Internship at Shipley College.
The college is local and tutors
are nice which makes my
lessons fun. I have made lots
of friends already. I am looking
forward to starting my work
placement, and would like
to progress but I am unsure
what I would like to do at the
moment.’
Matthew, 20,
About the course
This is a great opportunity to be in a real working environment and learn
a job role with support to help you to settle in. When in College, you gain a
wide range of skills including personal preparation for work, independent
travelling, job search skills and effective behaviour at work. You also have a
placement/internship where you will work with an employer in partnership
with the College. Your placement will be found to match your abilities &
interests. You will be on placement as an Intern for a number of months
where you learn and practice different tasks. In addition, you also work
towards important Functional Skills qualifications in maths and English.
“‘I am settling in well on my
Supported Internship and the
tutors have been truly helpful.
I chose the College because
they offered internships to help
get in to employment. After the
course, I would like to move in
to employment.’
Alex, 20,
Your future
At the end of the Supported Internship Programme, you may be offered
paid employment or volunteer work. If you need ongoing support, we work
with a number of agencies who can provide the help you need. If you think
this programme is for you or would like more information, please contact
us, come to our Open Days or book an appointment to speak with our
