Horticulture BTEC Level 3<br />

Course length: 2 years | Code: 7010<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English<br />

& maths. If you do not have grade 4 (C) or above in both<br />

subjects, the minimum for the other subject is grade 3 (D).<br />

or<br />

A full Level 2 at Pass grade or above with maths &<br />

English grades equivalent to those stated above.<br />

Students with grade 3 (D) in either English or maths will be<br />

expected to re-take that subject in Year 1.<br />

• A keen interest in working outdoors and with<br />

plants.<br />

About the course<br />

Learn the practical horticultural skills required for<br />

a varied range of careers in the sector. Build up<br />

your knowledge and skills in landscape gardening<br />

& management, as well as plant propagation and<br />

the care of trees. You will learn hard landscape<br />

construction, select which plants to use and when<br />

to plant them. You will grow plants from seeds or<br />

cuttings through to the stage when they are ready<br />

to plant out. The course is a mixture of classroombased<br />

theory and practical hands-on experience,<br />

focusing on teaching you the skills needed to be a<br />

professional horticulturalist.<br />

You visit garden centres, public parks and gardens,<br />

plus have work experience to help you develop your<br />

skills, confidence and knowledge of the industry.<br />

You will need safety boots and warm clothes for<br />

working outdoors.<br />

Your future<br />

After the course, you can study at college or<br />

university at a higher level in Horticulture, or use the<br />

skills and experience you have gained to progress<br />

further in your career in the Horticulture industry.<br />
