Health Professions pathway - You will study<br />

Level 3 modules in Professional Health Care<br />

Practice, Human Physiology and Psychology.<br />

Social Care Professions pathway - You will study<br />

Level 3 modules in Psychology and Counselling.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• A minimum of 1 GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above,<br />

including English or maths.<br />

Please note, a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification<br />

is no longer equivalent to a GCSE grade C so if you<br />

currently hold this, progression to GCSE is subject<br />

to assessment and meeting the required level.<br />

• Self-motivation and good levels of English are<br />

essential due to extensive coursework and exams.<br />

• To progress to Higher Education for Primary<br />

Teaching you will need grade 4 (C) or above, in<br />

English, maths and Science.<br />

• You will have an admissions interview and<br />

assessment to help you decide if the course is<br />

suitable for you.<br />

About the course<br />

The Access to Higher Education Diploma aims to<br />

build confidence, develop study & written skills and<br />

offers you the opportunity to improve your maths<br />

& English. On this course, you study mandatory<br />

modules and receive in-class tutorial support. You<br />

will also be expected to study for a further 15-<strong>20</strong><br />

hours outside of the classroom.<br />

Your future<br />

Access courses have an excellent track record.<br />

Our students have gone on to study a wide variety of<br />

courses at many different universities and colleges.<br />

Health & Social Care Professions pathway students<br />

have gone on to study Biomedical Sciences, Nursing<br />

(Child, Adult & Mental Health), Midwifery Studies,<br />

Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy,<br />

Paramedic Science, Chemistry and Forensic Medical<br />

Science, Psychology, Counselling, Criminology and<br />

Social Work to name a few.<br />

Primary Teaching students have gone on to study<br />

Primary Education with QTS, Education Studies and<br />

to become Teaching Assistants, to name a few.<br />

Please note: It is your responsibility to check the<br />

entry requirements of the institutions you want to<br />

apply to. Many universities are no longer accepting<br />

Level 2 equivalents.<br />

Costs<br />

If you are 19-23 and studying your first Level 3<br />

course, you may be eligible for full funding. If you are<br />

not eligible and are aged 19 or above, you can apply<br />

for an Advanced Learner Loan. This is completed at<br />

your induction.<br />

You will need a small amount of money to buy<br />

recommended textbooks and stationery such as<br />

files, paper and pens. You may be able to get financial<br />

support from the Learner Support Fund for help<br />

with course materials, equipment, travel costs and<br />

childcare costs. To find out if you are eligible, speak<br />

Early application is recommended as this is a very<br />

popular course.<br />

You study full-<strong>time</strong> for one year, attending <strong>College</strong> on<br />

the following days:<br />

Monday - half day from either 9.30am-12.30pm<br />

or 1-4pm<br />

Tuesday & Wednesday - <strong>Full</strong> day from 9am-4pm<br />
