About the course
Enjoy being creative? In this practical course, you
including 2D and 3D artwork in our art studio. Explore
a broad range of materials, techniques and processes
including digital photography, painting, printmaking,
graphic design, wirework, textiles and surface
pattern. Working on your project brief, you build up
a portfolio - essential for job applications or further
study at Level 3. Other project work will include ‘live’
briefs from employers and community organisations.
You will also visit galleries and exhibitions, (you may
be required to contribute towards the cost of these),
to help you gain useful insights for showcasing
your work at the End of Year Exhibition. Overall,
this course will help you develop as an Art & Design
Practitioner.
Your future
On successful completion of the course, you could
progress to the Art & Design BTEC Level 3 or use
the skills and experience you have gained to find
employment in industries such as Art, Design or
Fashion.
Entry requirements
& maths. If you do not have grade 4 (C) or above in both
subjects, the minimum for the other subject is grade 3 (D).
or
A full Level 2 at Pass grade or above with maths &
English grades equivalent to those stated above.
Students with grade D (3) in either English or maths will be
expected to re-take that subject in Year 1.
• A keen interest in art, design and creativity and a
portfolio of artwork or sketch books.
About the course
Explore 2D and 3D visual language by working
in a variety of areas such as painting, drawing,
printmaking, graphic design, computers for art,
textiles & fashion, plus 3D materials such as clay,
wirework and wood. Learn to work to a professional
brief, based on realistic workplace situations and to
communicate your ideas to different audiences.
In your second year, you will develop a project of
your own in response to a set brief. In addition,
you explore the work of other artists, designers
and craftspeople and benefit from talks from
professionals. You may also be involved in a
Community Arts Project.
There will be a number of basic drawing materials
you will have to buy for the course and you will be
expected to add to these as you progress through the
year. You may also have to pay towards educational
visits to galleries, museums and exhibitions.
