Entry requirements<br />
• 2 GCSEs at grade 3 (D), to include English. Maths<br />
must be at grade 2 (E) or above.<br />
or<br />
A full Level 1 at Pass grade, plus a GCSE grade 3<br />
(D) or above in English.<br />
• A portfolio of artwork or sketch books that<br />
demonstrates your interest in the subject.<br />
• You will have an interview and further assessment<br />
to check the course is right for you.<br />
About the course<br />
Enjoy being creative? In this practical course, you<br />
will produce a wide range of art and design work,<br />
including 2D and 3D artwork in our art studio. Explore<br />
a broad range of materials, techniques and processes<br />
including digital photography, painting, printmaking,<br />
graphic design, wirework, textiles and surface<br />
pattern. Working on your project brief, you build up<br />
a portfolio - essential for job applications or further<br />
study at Level 3. Other project work will include ‘live’<br />
briefs from employers and community organisations.<br />
You will also visit galleries and exhibitions, (you may<br />
be required to contribute towards the cost of these),<br />
to help you gain useful insights for showcasing<br />
your work at the End of Year Exhibition. Overall,<br />
this course will help you develop as an Art & Design<br />
Practitioner.<br />
Your future<br />
On successful completion of the course, you could<br />
progress to the Art & Design BTEC Level 3 or use<br />
the skills and experience you have gained to find<br />
employment in industries such as Art, Design or<br />
Fashion.<br />
Entry requirements<br />
• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English<br />
& maths. If you do not have grade 4 (C) or above in both<br />
subjects, the minimum for the other subject is grade 3 (D).<br />

A full Level 2 at Pass grade or above with maths &<br />
English grades equivalent to those stated above.<br />
Students with grade D (3) in either English or maths will be<br />
expected to re-take that subject in Year 1.<br />
• A keen interest in art, design and creativity and a<br />
portfolio of artwork or sketch books.<br />
About the course<br />
Explore 2D and 3D visual language by working<br />
in a variety of areas such as painting, drawing,<br />
printmaking, graphic design, computers for art,<br />
textiles & fashion, plus 3D materials such as clay,<br />
wirework and wood. Learn to work to a professional<br />
brief, based on realistic workplace situations and to<br />
communicate your ideas to different audiences.<br />
In your second year, you will develop a project of<br />
your own in response to a set brief. In addition,<br />
you explore the work of other artists, designers<br />
and craftspeople and benefit from talks from<br />
professionals. You may also be involved in a<br />
Community Arts Project.<br />
There will be a number of basic drawing materials<br />
you will have to buy for the course and you will be<br />
expected to add to these as you progress through the<br />
year. You may also have to pay towards educational<br />
visits to galleries, museums and exhibitions.<br />
Your future<br />
After the course, you can study at college or<br />
university at a higher level, or use the skills and<br />
experience you have gained to progress further in<br />
your career in Art, Design or Fashion.<br />
