causation outside of the individual for what happens in life, when in fact what really occurs is – what goes around comes around. A loving, yet wizened grandmother I once knew was known to say: “You made your own bed, now you can lie in it.” Another of her favorites was: “Well, dear, now you’ll get the chance to stew in your own juice. I wonder how you’ll like it?” The true meaning of these age-old bromides and what she meant to say to her young grandson was that I had created the situation I found myself in and I was going to have to deal with it. Most people, at one time or another in life, acknowledge to themselves that whatever jam they happen to be in at the moment is of their own doing. Most then pull themselves together and do what is necessary to fix the situation as best they can. Oft-times, however, this realization only arises when dealing with very obvious crisis situations. In truth though, it is applicable to every condition and relationship present in one’s life, and is explained by the basic law of life, The Law of Cause and Effect. It can be described as follows: For every cause there is an equal effect. There can be no cause without the attendant effect. There can be no effect without the attendant cause. In human experience, cause is defined as the quality of one’s thoughts, words and actions. Effect is defined as the quality of one’s life experience, relationships, prosperity, health, etc. In order to improve the Effect side of the Law, the Cause side must be appropriately altered.
Human beings are the only living creatures on earth capable of exercising freely expressed intelligence to determine for themselves what the quality of their “Cause” will be. The process of grasping this truth and then applying it moment by moment in life is a completely individual matter and can only be accomplished by each person for themselves. In the end, nobody can choose which thoughts another will think, which words they will say, or ultimately, what they will do. Making their own choices is challenge enough. Just ask my Uncle Rabe...
