time. Before long, he took a second job as a flight instructor so he could
build up his flight hours while getting paid. Once he started applying
his teaching skills, he became so busy as a flight instructor that he
decided to give up his law enforcement career. His love of flying,
combined with his commitment and purposeful direction of energy, had
him started on the road to finding his true purpose.
To augment his flight instruction work, John began accepting
assignments to fly corporate clients and eventually went to work for
several companies which offered that service. While engaged in this
activity, he observed various regulatory abuses that he thought were
potentially dangerous and therefore intolerable. His law enforcement
background compelled him to report these abuses to the authorities.
The fuss he made got him fired from his job, but resulted in severe
penalties and corrective action to the company in question. Most
importantly, it brought John to the attention of the Federal Aviation
Authority, which hired him as an inspector.
Today, John is a senior inspector for the F.A.A. His job is to be a
watchdog for potentially dangerous violations of Federal regulations.
In this capacity, John has been trained on many types of aircraft, being
“forced” to spend many hours flying the equipment. “Hardship duty”,
he joyfully calls it with a smile. He frequently has to teach mechanics
and pilots some of the finer points he has learned and often receives
comments about how he would have made a great teacher if he had
considered education as a career.
Through his diligence, uncompromising demand for safety and strict
adherence to regulations, John has also spotted and corrected many
situations that could have resulted in disastrous consequences. Many
