– how you’re expected to behave and perform – what sort of freedom or
lack thereof you can expect – what the future may hold.
As such, much of what you think, say, and do is driven by factors and
influences that you may not be conscious and aware of. It could in fact
be said that:
You are truly your own person only to the degree that you are able to
consciously pick and choose which elements of the collective mind that
have shaped you, that you wish to retain and which you would prefer to
replace – and do replace.
This is no small feat, particularly in an environment that applies pressure
to adhere to cultural norms and not rock the boat! It also presupposes
that you even understand and agree with this assessment – and have the
desire to create your own standards and reality.
However that shakes out, to the degree that you do not exercise your
freedom to choose, through either acquiescence or simple lack of
awareness, you do become subject to what may be termed The Law of
Averages. What you accept as being just a part of life will become
embedded as part of life. The one who accepts themselves as a statistic,
most likely ends up a statistic, surely the case for most of us.
