“How often could you go on repeating such an arduous cycle,” I
wondered.
“I don’t know,” she answered. “To me, it’s not arduous. It is simply
what I do and I love it.”
“Okay, but time after time you stand in front of an empty canvas. How
can you be sure that you’ll always be able to fill it up? What’s more,
how can you know that after all the time and effort you put in, that
anyone will buy it? My God, what a leap of faith!”
“I guess,” she mused. “But honestly, I don’t see why I should spend one
moment or ounce of energy dwelling on it. For what? First of all, they
fill themselves up. I just see them and get them started. Hey, you just
bought one and I had no expectation of that. When you did, by the way,
the guy you so ...umm... aggressively brushed aside, was so upset that he
quickly bought two others. So, if you’ve got nothing else to do and want
to worry about me, for me, be my guest. I’ll leave it to you. By the way,
I’ve got a great idea for this canvas. I can see it already.”
“Gee Sue, I honestly don’t know how you do it.”
“I just paint, Rob. I just paint.”
Sue may be the greatest epitome of a purely, good person that I’ve ever
known - zero deception – zero manipulation – pure goodness.
