■ Overview<br />
PROSIN drill breakage detection<br />
The low-cost PROSIN <strong>software</strong> permits direct access to the<br />
current values of the digital drives of the machine tool. If a tool<br />
breaks, the current of the associated drive changes; this value is<br />
increased in the case of a blunt tool. There<strong>for</strong>e, it is unnecessary<br />
to use additional sensors or complete monitoring electronics.<br />
Renishaw has developed <strong>software</strong> that can be used in conjunction<br />
with the systems <strong>for</strong> non-contact tool control NC1, NC3 and<br />

A special screen page, which is integrated in the standard user<br />
interface of the <strong>CNC</strong>, is available <strong>for</strong> parameterization of the<br />
operations of a <strong>CNC</strong> program to be monitored. This screen page<br />

permits input and optimization of the settings <strong>for</strong> the cuts of one<br />
or more tools to be monitored as well as display of the values that<br />
are actually measured.<br />
Renishaw systems <strong>for</strong> tool monitoring are available as carrier<br />
systems or module systems which cover a wide range of different<br />
applications. All systems use the MicroHole<br />
The limits of the <strong>software</strong>-based monitoring solution presented<br />
here depend on the application: if collisions are to be detected,<br />
or turning tools reliably monitored <strong>for</strong> breakage, the specially<br />
adapted sensor technology of other PROMETEC solutions is still<br />
required.<br />
This tool monitoring is particularly interesting <strong>for</strong> the mass production<br />
of metal parts, e.g., in the automotive supply industry, in<br />
order to increase quality while reducing costs.<br />

procedure. The NC4 system also offers an integrated Passive<br />
SealTM , which maintains full protection even if the compressed<br />
air supply is interrupted. Active drip suppression prevents false<br />
response caused by drops of coolant.<br />
