8 SYSTEM SETUP
Before the UC4 boom height control system will function properly, some
information about the sprayer and connected sensors is necessary. When
the control panel is turned on for the first time, the UC4 control panel
guides the operator through the Automatic System Setup. This procedure is
described in Section 8.4 on page 27. Normally the UC4 system will
automatically configure and calibrate itself to the sprayer. If this process
does not produce the desired results, perform Manual System Setup
described in Section 8.5 on page 36.
8.1 LEVELING CHAINS
NORAC UC4 ultrasonic sensors are calibrated to measure height accurately
when shipped from the factory. However, in order to measure the absolute
height of your spray nozzles, each sensor needs to know how far above the
nozzles it is mounted. To speed up this process, NORAC provides three
leveling chains in the kit that contains the UC4 sensors. These chains are to
be used during the Automatic/Manual System Setup procedure.
Before starting the System Setup, attach the leveling chains to your booms.
On the wings, position the chains near the nozzle closest to each outer wing
sensor. Attach the third to one side of the main boom such that it can be
seen from the cab. The chains should just touch the ground when the nozzle
is at a 35-inch height (Figure 12).
