Environmental Technician 4221<br />

1 year/2 semesters Fall Ontario College Diploma Morningside<br />
FAST-TRACK<br />
Combine your interest in biology, chemistry, math, <strong>and</strong> the environment for a career in the growing<br />
environmental technology field. Through this program, specially designed for post-secondary<br />
graduates, enter Year 2 (Semester 3) of the two-year program <strong>and</strong> graduate with a diploma in only<br />
one year (two semesters). Curriculum covers the three foundational disciplines of biology, chemistry,<br />
<strong>and</strong> civil engineering as it teaches you to underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> manage complex environmental problems.<br />
With h<strong>and</strong>s-on training, you learn to use the tools <strong>and</strong> equipment needed in water <strong>and</strong> soil quality<br />
analysis, ecological field sampling, analytical chemistry, <strong>and</strong> surveying — greatly increasing your<br />
career options. The thorough preparation sets you up for professional <strong>and</strong> personal success.<br />
Notes:<br />
1. When you graduate, you will be able to write the Ontario Ministry of the Environment Operator in Training (OIT) <strong>and</strong> Water<br />
Quality Analyst (WQA) exams. You will also be able to apply to register with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering<br />
Technicians <strong>and</strong> Technologists (OACETT).<br />
2. If you successfully complete the entry-level course for drinking water operators, you will meet the requirements of the Ministry<br />
of Environment’s entry-level course for drinking water operators.<br />
Program Accreditation <strong>and</strong> Recognition<br />
• This program has met the national educational st<strong>and</strong>ards of Canada’s engineering technology <strong>and</strong> applied<br />
science profession, <strong>and</strong> as such, has received national program accreditation from Technology Accreditation<br />
Canada (TAC).<br />
• The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians <strong>and</strong> Technologists (OACETT) recognizes this TAC<br />
nationally-accredited program as meeting the academic st<strong>and</strong>ard for certification in the Certified Technician<br />
(C.Tech.) category as well as the OACETT language benchmark requirement.<br />
