Dru climbed off of him, curled her legs underneath herself, and settled next to Spike<br />

on the bed She reached over to him and petted the ridges on his face. He adored<br />

when she did that. Like she was appreciating every part of him.<br />

“My poor Spike,” she cooed. “Little shepherd has lost his flock.”<br />

Spike tried to focus his thoughts back to the real world so he could work out what<br />

the crazy vampire was trying to say.<br />

“So so lost. Looking in all the wrong places.”<br />

“What are you on about, luv?”<br />

Dru stretched out next to him and leaned in close to his ear. “Sheep is searching for<br />

his shepherd. Needs to be herded. Needs a home.”<br />

He wasn’t sure he knew what was going on in that rattled brain of hers, but he knew<br />

he had to finish up his little project with the boy. He knew that for sure. Spike<br />

morphed back into his human features, took Dru’s hand and kissed it. “I’m going to<br />

be gone for a little while,” he told her.<br />

She grinned at him, then the world disappeared from her eyes as she said, ”Yes…a<br />

little while.“<br />

Spike creeped around the house, peering in windows until he found Xander’s<br />

bedroom. Mini-blinds partially shielded the view, but they weren’t closed all the<br />

way, and the vampire could see most of what was going on inside the room.<br />

Xander was propped up on his bed in the exact position that Spike had been earlier<br />

that night. And in the exact same state of dress. Doing the exact same thing. Spike<br />

grinned. He knew what the boy was thinking, too.<br />

He watched as the boy’s strokes became more fevered and his eyes rolled back. He
