“Will you try again? To turn me?”<br />

Spike sighed heavily. “Not unless you do something stupid and try to die again.”<br />

“Suppose it’s pointless to get you to promise not to.”<br />

“Suppose you’re right.”<br />

Xander climbed on top of Spike again, into the same position he was before. “What<br />

exactly was the plan, Spike?”<br />

“Which time?” Spike grinned.<br />

“Any time.”<br />

“Had lots of plans. All the time. Big complicated plans that involved ritual and<br />

death and blood and pain and love and sex.” Spike ran his hands up and down<br />

Xander’s arms. “Nothing ever turns out the way I expected.” He reached up and<br />

pulled his boy down into a long kiss. When they broke he confessed, “Doesn’t<br />

mean I’m not happy ‘bout the way things turned out.”<br />

“So what’s next? The next big plan?”<br />

Spike held onto Xander tightly and rolled him over onto his back, then stretched out<br />

next to him, one leg over one of Xander’s. He stroked a hand over his boy’s chest.<br />

“I’m done planning. It’s exhausting and pointless and everything backfires anyway.<br />

You tell me. What’s next?”<br />

Xander examined Spike’s face, his brow furrowing. “Look at you. You’ve gotten<br />

thinner. When was the last time you ate?”<br />

Spike shrugged. Quickly, Xander grabbed the vampire’s head and brought it to his<br />

neck. Without thinking, Spike morphed and bit into the inviting blood. He only had<br />

a moment to notice that his scar was almost completely gone. He made a point of<br />

marking a different place on Xander’s neck.<br />

The blood was as sweet as always. Xander blood. And Spike wanted to believe
