“Aahhh. I’m touched. Concerned about little ol’ me, are ya? Let me ease some of<br />
that burden. I’m fine. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a bit of catching up to do.”<br />
Spike gently shoved Xander away from the door. Xander let him, knowing that<br />
fighting it would do no good.<br />
Even though Xander left the crypt just moments after Spike, the vampire was<br />
already almost out of sight. Xander took off at a sprint, doing his best to keep up as<br />
Spike made his way through the recently dark streets. At one point, Xander lost him<br />
all together. However, when he rounded a blind corner, coming out of an alleyway,<br />
he was stopped abruptly by the leather brick wall that is Spike.<br />
The vampire was standing in the parking lot of a brightly lit convenience store.<br />
Xander regained his composure quickly and stepped up next to Spike, mimicking<br />
the vampire’s stance of ramrod straight back and thumbs hooked in belt loops. In<br />
the harsh light of the overhead street lamps, and despite the bruise-blotched face<br />
and shirtlessness under the leather coat, Spike looked extremely menacing. And not<br />
the least bit sexy. Nope.<br />
“Uh, Spike…what are we doing here?”<br />
“Have no bloody idea what you’re doin’ here, mate. I’m here to satisfy a craving<br />
that’s been burning for, oh, about three months now.”<br />
Xander observed the hustle and bustle of the busy store. Four cars in the parking lot.<br />
Almost a dozen people in and around the store itself, including one behind the<br />
counter and a couple kids loitering around the outdoor phone booth. “Um…what<br />
exactly is the plan here, Spike?”<br />
“Plan?”<br />
“I mean, this isn’t really your scene, is it? Unless you plan to, hee-hee, kill all these<br />
people. Oh, god! You’re not planning on killing everyone, are you? ‘Cause, I gotta<br />
say, that would be very very bad. And I’d have to, you know…stop you.” Xander’s<br />
