Fkanki.ix Coi.liekv.— Lovell, Booth it- Co., Opcralors, oa land.i <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> P. and<br />

li. Coal and Iron Company.<br />

It consists <strong>of</strong> 2 drift levels. No. 10 vein is open in 4 feet <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong>, and<br />

idle. The Ked Ash vein is open in <strong>the</strong> counter drift, and mining is solely<br />

confined to robbing out pillars. Ventilation is effected by natural air currents,<br />

and is found sufficient for its purpose. Ten thousand tons <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong><br />

has been mined. One steam engine <strong>of</strong> 8-horse power, and 1 boiler, is used ;<br />

30 men and boys are employed. The general condition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> colliery is<br />

good<br />

George Fales' Colliery.—Heim & Goodwill, Operators, on lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> P.<br />

and R. Coal and Iron Company.<br />

It consists <strong>of</strong> a slope sank 220 yards on <strong>the</strong> north dip <strong>of</strong> No. 10 vein.<br />

Mining on <strong>the</strong> east panel is confined to robbing back pillars. A tunnel<br />

opens No. 11 vein in 1\ feet <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong>. The chief supply is mined in <strong>the</strong><br />

basin measures and some on <strong>the</strong> counter gangway. An air shaft has been<br />

open and a furnace erected for ventilating <strong>the</strong> mine, which gives satisfactory<br />

results. A 40-horse power engine, with 6 boilers, are used, and 2<br />

pumps do <strong>the</strong> drainage. Thirty-two thousand five hundred and seventy-six<br />

tons <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong> has been mined, employing 95 hands.<br />

Henry Clay Colliery.—/. Langdon & Co., Operators, on lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> P.<br />

and It. Coal and Iron Company.<br />

It consists <strong>of</strong> a slope opening <strong>the</strong> No. 8 vein on its western limits.<br />

Mining is confined to robbing out pillars. Six feet <strong>of</strong> slate separates Nos.<br />

8 and 9 veins. Ventilation is effected by a 20-horse power fan, located on<br />

<strong>the</strong> counter drift. Its results is not adequate to produce a proper supply<br />

<strong>of</strong> air for ventilating <strong>the</strong> different panels. Notices have been served upon<br />

<strong>the</strong> superintendent to remedy all defects and to place <strong>the</strong> colliery in a<br />

lawful working condition. Since <strong>the</strong>n efforts are making to comply with<br />

<strong>the</strong> legal requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> act <strong>of</strong> Assembly. Eighty-five thousand nine<br />

hundred and forty-five tons <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong> had been mined, employing 145 men<br />

and 40 boys; 90 horse power engines, with 6 boilers and' a pole pump for<br />

drainage, in use.<br />

Coal Eidge Colliery.—Burton (G Bro.'s, Operalors, on lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coal<br />

Fddge Improvement Company.<br />

It is situated at Bell's Tunnel, near Mount Carmel, and consists <strong>of</strong> a<br />

double track slope, 110 j'ards deep, opening <strong>the</strong> south dip <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> E vein.<br />

It is a new operation in fact. A new steam fan has been introduced this<br />

year to ventilate <strong>the</strong> mine. Nothing has been done lately except draining<br />

<strong>the</strong> mine. 150-horse power engines, with 16 boilers, are in use ; 40 mea<br />

and 25 boys are employed. The condition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> colliery is satisfactory.<br />

Twelve thousand four hundred and eleven tons <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong> had been mined.
