Sixty-four working collieries iu <strong>the</strong> district, 3 shafts, 55 slopes, 23 tunnels, 55 drifts, 151 eugines=;r2,965-horse power ; 592 boilers, 14 pole and T bull pumps, 36 steam fans, 1 furnaces ; 7,289 men and 2,296 boys=9,585 hands employed. 186 visits, making 5,168 miles traveled. 38 fatal and 111 non-fatal accidents occurred during <strong>the</strong> year, leaving 13 widows and 30 orphans. 2,848,726 tons <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong> had been shipped, 542,000 tons had been consumed in <strong>the</strong> district, making 3,388,726 tons mined ; making one fatal accident to each 89,177 tons, and one non-fatal accident to each 252 persons employed in <strong>the</strong> district.
