to <strong>the</strong> deceased, that <strong>the</strong> company would pay as much as <strong>the</strong> aggregate<br />

sum from <strong>the</strong> men. The men have agreed, and <strong>the</strong> following is some<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> results :<br />

Jno. Flaherty, killed August, 1873; men contributed $233 50, company<br />

contributed $233 50=:$46T. Frank Longstaff, killed August, 1874; men<br />

contributed $128, company contributed $128=$256. Patrick Hart, killed<br />

March, 1874; men contributed $310, company contributed $310=$621.<br />

Thos. Davis, killed September, 18T5 ; men contributed $194, company con-<br />

tributed $194=|;388. Patrick Doe, killed December, 1875 ; men contributed<br />

$236, company contributed $236=$472. John Fox, (boy,) killed December,<br />

1875, men contributed $117, company contributed $117=$234.<br />

The following table is intended to show <strong>the</strong> number and nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

fatal accidents which have occurred in this district during <strong>the</strong> past five<br />

years<br />
