Eexo Colliery.—Hoagland (0 Go , Operators, on lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coal Ridge<br />

Improvement Company.<br />

This is a land-sale collieiy. It consists <strong>of</strong> a dry slope sunk on <strong>the</strong> crop<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lj'kens Valley vein in <strong>coal</strong> from two to five feet thick. The slope isworked<br />

by liorse power, employing six hands, and shipping some 1,000 tons<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong>.<br />

BussEN & Wagokseller Colliery.<br />

The colliery consists <strong>of</strong> a drift level, working <strong>the</strong> top <strong>coal</strong> <strong>of</strong> Ilazledell<br />

employing 5 men, and mined 340 tons <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong> during <strong>the</strong> season.<br />

Lancaster Colliery.— Smith i% Reiser, Operators, on lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ilineral<br />

Railroad and Mining Covipany.<br />

It consists <strong>of</strong> 3 drifts on <strong>the</strong> Twin veins, Nos. 8 and 9. No. 2 drift opens-<br />

No. 8 vein in 6 feet <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong>, 6 breasts are open in this panel ; No. 3 drift is<br />

open on No. 8 vein in 6| feet <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong>, with 8 breasts open ;<br />

No. 9 vein has<br />

7 breasts open in 5 feet <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong>. The colliery is ventilated by natural air<br />

currents. With ordinary care mining in this colliery is a safe operation.<br />

24,998 tons <strong>of</strong> <strong>coal</strong> has been mined ; 54 men and 16 boys are employed :.<br />

one 20-horse power breaker engine, -with one boiler is used. I am pleased<br />

to say <strong>the</strong> condition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> colliery is good<br />

<strong>the</strong> late division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> territory as given above, showing that 60 collieries<br />
