What do you think ofthe interpretation that has been given, in general, to conceptual art? Do you continue to accept this term to designate your own activity? Art-Language: The general usage ofthe term “conceptual art” has extended to the point where any distinctive meaning that it might have had has disappeared. Ifyou are asking ifwe accept this term to designate our activity, the answer is frankly “no”. Taken in the broadest ofmeanings, the term “conceptual art” can distinguish Art-Language from Pablo Picasso or from Willem de Kooning, but an answer like this does not signify more than the most hackneyed tautology. The subtitle The Journal of Conceptual Art was dropped because it was associated with too varied a spectrum ofartistic activity.
